Noelia Parralejo: "I would like that women basketball would have more of a spotlight"

Prensa TBS -

, Cadete

Noelia Parralejo Martín is the starting point guard for our Female Cadet. A well rounded 2005-2006 generation, without a doubt, and she is one of the pillars. By the way that this month during 8M the figure of women is exalted in the country. What a way to take advantage of the context, than to announce that the female branch at Torrejón Basketball Academy prepares great changes for the future, with a view to the growth of the women side and it is time to get to know Noelia more thoroughly, one of the great personalities of our squad:

Where does Noelias history with basketball begin?

Well, I have always been a very sporty girl. In the schoolyard I was one of those who always played soccer, basketball, handball ... And since I liked it so much and had friends who were at the club, I decided to try it and I liked it so much that I am still here.

For how long have you been a Torrejón Basketball player? For those who do not know you or have not seen you play on the court, how would you describe yourself as a player? Shortcomings, strong points on the court?

I started 5 years ago. I honestly consider that I bring many good things to the team, as a player and as a teammate. My position is point guard since I have very good ball handling and good vision of the game. I am also doing very good assists. As shortcomings I can say that I have to improve my drives to the hoop and shoot more to the basket, because I think I can be very effective. I am working on being more aggressive and having more mischief on the court both when attacking and defending.

At the level of companionship, I am a very optimistic player when it comes to playing games, and I try to transmit that positive energy to my teammates since that will help both me and the team to have more confidence in ourselves.

What do you do off the court and what hobbies do you have?

Apart from my training sessions, when I have time I like to continue practicing basketball with my friends. Something that I am also very passionate about is dancing, which is something that I have practiced for a long time only that I quit and now I like to share it with my friends, since it is something that makes me very happy.

What does Torrejón, the city, and the club mean to you?

Well, I feel very proud to be a Torrejonera. Thanks to being in a peña, I participate in a lot of cultural events such as: Carnivals, Cabalgata de Reyes, and by the way, in my opinion we have the best parties haha! Both the club should note that during my years here I have made many friends and there is a very good atmosphere. The only thing that disappoints me a lot is how little women basketball traction there is and it is something that I would like to promote, since as my colleague Irene said we can go very far.

Do you have future goals in basketball?

My goals in basketball are clear, I would like to go very far since it is something that I like and it makes me happy, so I will continue to strive and try to improve much more. As a goal, I would like women basketball to come to the spotlight more since it deserves more appreciation, obviously I will not achieve it alone but I am sure that there are more women like me than together we can achieve it.

Your cadet competes and stands against more worked rivals. Irene, Andrea and you among the individual high points; How do you analyze this season and what do you think is necessary to improve the female branch?

Speaking of this season, we need a lot more enthusiasm when it comes to playing. It must also be said that it is very noticeable not having an audience that encourages you since we get demoralized very quickly. Continuing to talk about this season, how you have said already, we face more talented teams which in my opinion we are capable of defeating, it is also helping us to see many individual and team failures and work on them.

About the female branch, there is a lot that I would like to talk about but I am going to say the most important thing that is, that basketball should be started at an early age, so you could try to transmit this message in some way, such as going to schools at try to encourage it.

It has certainly been a pretty tough 2020, with a global situation that to a greater or lesser extent affected a large part of humanity. How have they handled it at home, and you personally? Also tell us about the creativity you had to have to train during a pandemic, confined to home...

It is true that this 2020 has been very hard for everyone. At home the situation has been quite good, there had to be some discussion, but it has helped us to evolve as a family. Personally, I have not taken it badly, it is more it has helped me to find myself and realize the reality of the world in which we live, that yes I have never lost my positivity!

And I trust that this 2021 will be better! As for physical work, it is something I never stopped doing, for health reasons and because it helped me get away from my problems even for an hour.

Where do you look academically for the future; What do you want to study at university and why?

Right now I am not very clear about what I want to study, in high school I think I am going to go for science, and I am going to focus on me to the fullest. This year I am working very hard to get a scholarship that would allow me to go to the United States for a whole year to study and there I also develop myself in basketball. Looking to the future when I go to university I have several options that will change since I still have a lot of time to decide. I would like to do Marketing, Criminology, Psychology or public relations, they are very different things but they all catch my attention, so I think my ideas will change.

A message to end this interview to the Torrejoneros and the Academy:

The first thing to never stop being positive since it is something very good to mentalize yourself that you can achieve what you set out to do. A lot of effort every day in training, realizing your mistakes and keep trying. And above all, do not get demoralized, and if something does not come out, do not worry about being scolded, but because you realize it and try to improve it, because if you learn something, it is from mistakes.
