Upset and Final Four berth
A major upset happened in the Felipe Reyes Pavilion this past weekend. In theory, few expected the broad favorite and best team in the competition in the regular season, C.B Getafe, to lose. Even less, that they fell defeated in the way we have been able to defeat them. And so it was. The crazy dream continues. Congratulations to all the players and multidisciplinary staff of Torrejón Basketball Academy for this enormous achievement, we are now just one game from the EBA dream.
From the warm-up there was a different feeling, a very positive energy in our group. Toned up from the important victory to level the series one at Javi Limones, TECMOON Torrejón came out in the first quarter marking an important advantage that they would not lose any more. 11-16, with a triple by Pablo Rebollo that would be essential, and a relentless defense by Gastón Diedhiou on our board.
Víctor Alonso had a spectacular afternoon, and between circus shots and three-pointers with a hand on his face he was the protagonist in the successive quarters. Talking about Malique Lewis sometimes ends up being redundant, because once again he has proven to be unstoppable for any First National rival. Top scorer with 18 points, with pure power baskets near the rim, the usual contribution from the perimeter and also a huge dunk to shut down any possible hope that the locals have had in Felipe Reyes. Remember that he is only 16 years old.
Honored by the way, the Real Madrid player prior to the game, – he is Honorary President of C.B Getafe. The experienced Spanish National Team center was a spectator of this major upset of ours against a team with a bigger budget and the drive of its ACB figures such as Iñaki de Miguel, or Andrés Miso himself on the bench.
TECMOON Torrejón Basket competed and once again defeated adversity, and qualified for the Final Four in Madrid. A final phase that guarantees places in the EBA League for the finalists, and already C.B Majadahonda awaits us in mid-June for that crucial semifinal game. An opponent who divided honors to one victory per side in the regular round. The most important of the year, without a doubt.
